Aeries February Freeze Tall Timber Trail Run & 12 Hour Ultra Race

So what are you doing on February 1st, 2014, I mean, there isn't much going on that time of year.  I have this great idea, I really think you will like it.  Come to Grafton, IL and run a 6 mile trail run or a 12 hour Ultra Trail Run.  They will both be awesome events with really great schwag.

This is going to be one of those events that you do once and never want to miss again.  See all the race info below.

Registration is now open, with a 300 entry limit for the trail run and a 150 entry limit for the Ultra run, there is also a team division for the Ultra, so grab two of your closest friends and hang out in the dark for 12 hours, all you have to do is run a little.

This race is being managed by the Metro Tri Club, the same people that bring you the Pere Marquette Trail Run.  And the course is very similar to the PM run also, so be ready for a challenge.

    1. Yes, it is a 2 mile loop, its part of the 6 mile course. I was originally planning on using the 6 mile loop, but I had some ultra runners come out and test the course and was advised that it was probably too challenging a course to use for a 12 hour course. It has 1 tough climb and 1 tough descent and the rest are rolling hills along the ridge with some really great views, but then again it will be dark, so unless there is a really big moon you might not see much. I'm having more ultra runners out on the 29th to run the course again so we can finalize the route. It's really a nice course.

    2. oh my. it's hard to say without being on the trail myself, but a 2 mile loop for 12 hours doesn't sound that fun. i vote 6 mile loop!!

    3. If the race length is by time, not distance, does it really matter how slow the trail is?
I also would like a longer course.

    4. David,

We took all the comments under consideration and we will be using the full course for the 12 hour, it will be challenging.

  3. Any thoughts on including something for finishing the 12hr? Am I understanding correctly that only awards for 3 deep in 6 mile for each age group and only 1st place awards for the 12hr run? Sorry..just trying to understand the costs. Thanks so much.

  4. Will there be a location at the trail head in which the 12 hr ultra runners could be supported by family and friends? Also will their be any aid stations on the course for the ultra?

    1. Yes, we will have a room open with bathrooms, water and food, each runner will stop there and checkin at the end of each lab, spectators can hang out there. There will be one aid station about half way, but will not always be manned, it will have a fire, food and water.
